SRINAGAR: Kashmir continues to reel under an intense heatwave, with night temperatures hitting record highs across the Valley. Daytime temperatures crossed 35°C in several districts on Friday, with heavy monsoon rains expected from Sunday, raising concerns over flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging.
Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 24.5°C, the fourth-highest July night on record. Warmer nights were only seen on July 21, 1988 (25.2°C), July 29, 2024 (24.8°C), and July 28, 2024 (24.6°C).
Qazigund logged 23.4°C, breaking its previous July record of 22.8°C (1997). Pahalgam recorded 20.0°C, the second-highest for July after 20.2°C in 2013. Kokernag saw 21.8°C, just below its 2005 record of 22.6°C.
The Meteorological Department has urged caution as the Valley braces for intense rainfall and possible weather-related hazards.
