New Delhi-In response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired two high-level meetings to evaluate the security and political situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The day began with a session of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), comprising key ministers responsible for defence, home affairs, finance, and external affairs. This was followed by a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs. Official sources said the CCS focused on India’s security posture and strategic readiness in the region.

The meetings came on the heels of the Prime Minister’s consultation with top military commanders on Tuesday, during which he reiterated that the armed forces have complete operational autonomy to respond as they see fit.

Senior ministers and security officials are said to be keeping a close watch on the situation, amid rising tensions and speculation about a calibrated response from New Delhi.
