Indian captain Rohit Sharma etched his name into the record books once again, becoming the fastest opener to score 9,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs). The 37-year-old achieved the milestone during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Rohit reached the landmark with his first run of the match, accomplishing the feat in just 181 innings as an opener—breaking the previous record held by legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who took 197 innings to reach the same milestone.

With this achievement, Rohit joins an elite list of ODI openers who have crossed the 9,000-run mark, which includes cricketing greats such as Sachin Tendulkar (15,310 runs), Sanath Jayasuriya (12,740), Chris Gayle (10,179), Adam Gilchrist (9,200), and Sourav Ganguly (9,146).

This milestone comes shortly after another notable accomplishment in the previous match against Bangladesh, where Rohit became the second-fastest player in history to reach 11,000 ODI runs. He achieved this feat in just 261 innings, second only to his teammate Virat Kohli, who reached the mark in 222 innings.

Renowned for his dominance in white-ball cricket, Rohit Sharma holds multiple records in the format. He remains the only player to have scored three double centuries in ODIs and holds the highest individual score in the format—264 runs. His latest record further cements his legacy as one of the greatest ODI batsmen of all time.
