New Delhi, July 20:
In a move aimed at ensuring greater participation of smaller political parties in parliamentary debates, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Sunday said the government has taken note of concerns regarding limited speaking time allotted to parties with fewer Members of Parliament (MPs).

Speaking to the media after an all-party meeting ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Rijiju acknowledged that parties with just one or two MPs often struggle to get sufficient time to voice their views due to the proportional allocation of speaking time.

“Members of small political parties, especially those with 1-2 MPs, get lesser time to speak because time is allocated as per their numbers,” Rijiju said. “But we have taken cognisance of this. We have agreed to allocate ample time to small parties.”
