May 2- In the wake of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals—most of them tourists—the United States has reaffirmed its commitment to stand with India in its fight against terrorism.
US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth held a telephonic conversation with Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, during which he conveyed condolences and expressed unwavering support for India’s right to defend itself.
“Pakistan has once again revealed itself as a rogue state that nurtures terrorism and destabilizes the region. The international community must no longer remain indifferent to the threat of terrorism,” Singh told Hegseth during the call.
The Ministry of Defence, in a post on its official X handle, stated: “The US Secretary of Defence @PeteHegseth spoke to Raksha Mantri Shri @rajnathsingh earlier today and conveyed his heartfelt sympathies over the tragic loss of innocent lives in the heinous terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir.”
“Secretary Hegseth reiterated that the United States stands firmly with India and fully supports its sovereign right to combat terrorism. He also emphasized the US government’s steadfast backing of India’s efforts to eliminate terror threats,” the post added.
