SRINAGAR: Esteemed Shia cleric and scholar Allama Aga Syed Mohammad Baqir Al-Moosavi Al-Najfi (RA) breathed his last in the early hours of Friday at SMHS Hospital in Srinagar. He was 85 years old.
His funeral prayers (Namaz-e-Janazah) will be offered later today, following Friday congregational prayers, at the family’s historic shrine, Asthan-e-Alia, located in Budgam.
A highly respected figure in religious circles, Allama Aga Baqir was the most senior member of the distinguished Aga family of Budgam. He shared close familial ties with influential personalities such as Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, and Aga Syed Hadi Mosavi. His death is being deeply mourned across the Valley, marking a significant loss to the region’s religious and intellectual tradition.
Expressing his condolences, Molvi Imran Reza Ansari, President of the All Jammu & Kashmir Shia Association, described the late scholar as “a beacon of knowledge and spirituality whose departure has left a profound void.”
“He was a bridge between the timeless wisdom of Najaf and the contemporary realities of our society,” Ansari said, highlighting Allama Baqir’s devotion to faith, his service to the community, and the intellectual legacy he leaves behind.
