Anantnag, Feb 23: The Legal Metrology Department (LMD) Anantnag has imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on a petrol pump along the National Highway after a surprise inspection revealed fuel short delivery. Officials found that one of the dispensing nozzles was delivering approximately 35 ml less fuel per 5 liters than the displayed reading.

During the inspection, authorities discovered that the display panel on the dispensing unit did not match the actual quantity of fuel being delivered to customers. Consequently, the faulty nozzle was seized.

The petrol pump management admitted to the lapse and sought compounding of the offense at the departmental level. The case was subsequently compounded under Section 48 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, LMD Anantnag stated.

This action is part of a broader crackdown by the department on petrol pumps found violating fuel measurement regulations.

LMD has urged consumers to stay vigilant and safeguard their rights while refueling. Customers can verify fuel delivery using the mandatory 5-liter conical measure available at every petrol pump. It is the responsibility of petrol pump management to facilitate such checks upon request.
