JAMMU: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district have detained an alleged cattle smuggler under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA), police said on Sunday.
The accused, Yaqoob Ali, also known as Juka, a resident of Madhera, was lodged in Kathua district jail after the Samba district magistrate issued formal detention orders, a police official stated.
The PSA is a preventive law that permits detention without charge or trial for up to two years in certain cases.
Ali was apprehended at the Kathua-Punjab border and is reportedly involved in multiple criminal cases. Officials described him as a serious threat to peace and stability in the region.
