SRINAGAR: The Ministry of Labour and Employment has reported that as of November 26, 2025, 36,11,005 unorganised workers—including migrant labourers—from Jammu and Kashmir have registered on the national eShram portal. In Ladakh, 35,068 workers have signed up, indicating growing efforts to bring the workforce under formal welfare and social security systems.

Launched on August 26, 2021, the eShram portal aims to build a unified database of unorganised and migrant workers to streamline access to social security benefits. Aadhaar-linked self-registration allows workers to receive entitlements such as minimum wages, travel and displacement allowances, housing, medical support, protective gear, and grievance redressal.

The registration drive aligns with reforms under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (OSH) Code, 2020, which replaces the Inter-State Migrant Workmen Act, 1979, and ensures improved working conditions, social security, and portability of benefits nationwide.

In J&K, registered workers span sectors like construction, agriculture, and handicrafts. With over 36 lakh enrollments, authorities now have a stronger mechanism to monitor labour conditions and deliver welfare schemes efficiently. Ladakh’s participation, though smaller, reflects rising awareness even in remote areas.
