SRINAGAR, April 29: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the ongoing development of major road infrastructure projects across Jammu and Kashmir, with a particular focus on national highways, expressways, and tunnel constructions.

During the meeting, officials apprised the Chief Minister of the progress on more than 1,800 kilometers of roadway projects currently underway. These works are being executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), and the Public Works (R&B) Department.

Public Works Secretary Bhupinder Kumar provided detailed updates on several strategically vital corridors, including the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), the Jammu–Rajouri–Poonch Highway (NH-144A), and the Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway (NE-5). He also reported significant advancement in 12 key tunnel projects—among them Zoji La, Z-Morh, and Panthal–Magarkote—many of which are nearing completion.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Advisor to the CM Nasir Aslam Wani, and senior representatives from key implementing agencies. Discussions centered around accelerating inter-departmental coordination, resolving clearance delays, and addressing issues related to public rehabilitation in project-affected areas.
