The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday distanced itself from controversial statements made by its MPs Nishikant Dubey and Dinesh Sharma targeting the judiciary and the Chief Justice of India. BJP president J.P. Nadda made it clear that the remarks were personal opinions and did not reflect the party’s official position.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Nadda said, “The BJP does not endorse or support the comments made by Nishikant Dubey and Dinesh Sharma. These views are their own, and the party categorically rejects them.”
Nadda also stated that he has issued directions to both leaders, as well as other party members, to avoid making such statements in the future. Emphasizing the BJP’s commitment to constitutional values, he underlined the party’s deep respect for the judiciary.
“The judiciary is a cornerstone of India’s democracy and plays a crucial role in upholding the Constitution. The BJP has always respected court decisions, including those of the Supreme Court, and welcomed their guidance,” he added.
The row began after Nishikant Dubey sparked debate by suggesting that the Supreme Court’s actions could undermine Parliament’s role. In a post and subsequent media comments, Dubey remarked, “If the Supreme Court wants to make laws, then why should Parliament exist at all?”
